Zalev Brothers' Jarcaig gets nod as new CARI president

Philadelphia - Sheldon Jarcaig, vice president of sales at Ferrous Processing & Trading LLC's Zalev Brothers Co. unit in Windsor, Ontario, has been elected president of the Canadian Association of Recycling Industries (CARI).

Other officers elected at the group's annual convention in Charlevoix, Quebec, included Bertrand Van Dorpe from Rouville Station Inc. as vice president and Dennis Cebula from Keywell LLC as secretary/treasurer. The three officers, together with CARI past president Randy Douglas from Gerdau Ameristeel Corp. and CARI executive director Len Shaw, form the group's new executive committee.

Jarcaig told association members that he plans to expand CARI's membership into other recycled materials and extend membership to foreign scrap companies. He said he also plans to strengthen CARI's alliance with the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, Washington, and the Bureau of International Recycling in Brussels.

Jarcaig urged industry members to work with police and municipal officials to solve the problems of metal thefts. "By utilizing the expertise of our membership, we have the opportunity to represent ourselves to the public and government as part of the solution to this ongoing problem, a common goal shared with other recycling organizations," he said.
